Xinhuanet, Brussels, June 25 (Reporter Shuai Rong) The European Commission issued an announcement on the 25th that the European Commission decided on the same day that toys intended for children 3 years of age and below may be placed in the mouth according to the design. In toys, the limit of migration of bisphenol A through liquid is strictly regulated as 0.1 mg per liter to improve the safety of toys. According to the new directive published in the Official Journal of the European Union, EU member states must implement the limit clause from December 21, 2015. In addition, the new directive also includes three flame retardants-tris (β-chloroethyl) phosphate, tris (chloroisopropyl) phosphate, and tris (1,3-dichloropropyl) phosphate in toys. The content is limited to 5 mg per kilogram. Bisphenol A is a chemical substance widely used in the manufacture of plastics. Most of the plastic-based baby bottles, beverage bottles and other containers and packaging contain this substance. The debate on whether bisphenol A is harmful to health has been around for a long time. The European Commission stated that scientific evaluations are still being made regarding the effects of bisphenol A on endocrine and other aspects. Once there are new scientific conclusions, the existing limit instructions will be reviewed. It is reported that the previous EU standard documents have set the limit for the migration of bisphenol A in toys via liquid to no more than 0.1 mg per liter, but the limit is only voluntarily implemented by the European toy industry and is not mandatory.
