In the past 16 years, the average annual growth rate of the added value of my country's information industry has exceeded 26.6%, and its share of GDP has increased from less than 1% to 10%. In the next five years, my country's Internet penetration rate is expected to reach 45% . This is the information disclosed in the white paper 'The State of the Internet in China' (hereinafter referred to as the 'white paper') issued by the State Council Information Office yesterday.　　 Survey data shows that as of 2009, the number of Internet users in my country reached 384 million, 681 times that of 1997. The increase in the number of netizens has promoted the expansion of the information industry market. In 2008, the scale of my country's Internet industry was 650 billion yuan, of which the sales scale of the Internet manufacturing industry was close to 500 billion yuan, equivalent to 1/60 of the GDP and 1/10 of the global Internet manufacturing sales.　　 At the same time, the white paper also pointed out that the development, popularization and application of the Internet in my country has problems with regional and urban-rural development imbalances. Restricted by factors such as economic development, education, and the overall informatization level of the society, the characteristics of rapid development in the east and slow development in the west, high urban penetration rate and low rural penetration rate are present. As of the end of 2009, the Internet penetration rate was 40% in the eastern region and 21.5% in the western region; urban Internet users accounted for 72.2% of the total Internet users, and rural Internet users accounted for 27.8%.
